I’ve been following Facebook updates from our old town in New Jersey for the last week and a half. Although they are inland, almost the whole town has been without power since Hurricane Sandy, including all the schools. The kids have missed two weeks of school. People have no power, no heat, and no access to their cars, which are hemmed in by trees and power lines. Yes, they’re better off than those on the shore, but things are pretty primitive right now.
An hour ago, someone posted that trucks from Michigan are in town, putting up new poles and working to restore power near the schools. Michigan. They drove in to New Jersey from Michigan and are working their asses off to set things right.
Because we’re one country. And we help each other out. We don’t sit back and say, “Well, I’m OK over here. You figure your own shit out.”
You can work on the moral of the story yourself.
