Maine

Maine is in a shrinking pool of states I’ve never lived in.  I’ve spent a couple of vacations there, driven through a few times.  As I’m also not a Republican, perhaps it’s surprising how saddened I was to hear that Olympia Snowe resigned.  What does it matter to me?

I’m an American.  I’m someone who believes in the American government.  Well, used to believe in it.  Now, I see it as so damned polarized that nothing gets done.  My government isn’t working for me because the people we’ve elected care more about reelection than public service.  Obama tried to work with the other side, and look where that got him.

Now, a moderate, intelligent Senator, albeit one who I don’t agree with on many matters, is leaving the government because she’s as disgusted with the system as I am.  Nicely done.

You want to know what’s wrong with this country?  Look no further than Olympia Snowe.

Olympia Snowe is, and always has been, a class act. I, too, am sorry to see her go.

It’s sad and scary to watch from north of the border.

When the way to confirm your integrity is to quit the senate, that is a dark day.
